Flubaroo

Principal function(s): Marking and feedback

Flubaroo converts quiz answers into grades. It is a free tool designed by a teacher to help fellow teachers to grade and provide feedback on multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blank type assignments. Teachers first create the assignments using Google Forms and then download and install Flubaroo as an add-on. Evaluation: It may take some time to learn how to use the tool in order to take advantage of all its possibilities. Also, the website is very basic but it includes a complete step-by-step written tutorial about how to use the tool (www.flubaroo.com/flubaroo-user-guide), a video tutorial and a discussion forum.

Cost: Free without registration. The extension must be installed into a browser.

Medium. Flubaroo is an open-source tool for education and thus is not profit-oriented. Nevertheless, it uses the Google Apps platform. It collects personal information for the improvement of its services but does not include personally identifiable information. Flubaroo requires access to Google Drive, but it claims that there is no alternative to that and that only necessary access rights are requested to perform actions, while textual contents of users' Drive files are not transmitted to third-party services. The policy doesn't provide extensive details about security measures but emphasizes that no student data is stored outside the user's Google Drive account. The policy mentions compliance with the Family Educational Records and Privacy Act (FERPA), indicating an understanding of regulations related to children’s rights. Flubaroo’s privacy policy does not mention compliance with the GDPR. See more here.

Playphrase (Tool to find the pronunciation of words from movies )

Playphrase is a tool that searches specific words or phrases out of movie snippets from a database of audiovisual media with over 60,000 phrases. In this manner, it provides real-life examples of words’ and sentences’ pronunciation. Users just have to type specific phrases, watch them being used naturally in context within popular movies and TV shows, and listen to their pronunciation. Playphrase works mainly with English. Playphrase is not open-source, but it is freely available. It does not require setting up an account or signing in. ... Plus d'info
