Information and Communication Technologies have transformed various aspects of our lives, including education. The workshop “Use of ICT in support of language learning and teaching” (ICT-REV) encouraged the 30 participants to explore the latest advancements in technology-based learning and discover innovative practices to take their teaching to the next level.

This workshop covered a range of topics, including the effective use of educational software, digital communication tools, and multimedia resources to develop student engagement and learning outcomes.

Over the course of the workshop the participants had the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities, collaborate with other educators, and learn from experts in the field. From creating interactive quizzes to using video conferencing the workshop was designed to help develop practical skills that can immediately be applied in teaching practice.

The event also offered a chance to network with other educators and exchange ideas about best practices. Whether an experienced teacher or just starting out, the workshop was pitched to meet participants’ needs and provide them with the tools and strategies to succeed.

It proved an exciting opportunity to transform our classroom and improve our students’ experience of learning and join on a journey toward more effective, impactful teaching!

Հաղորդակցման և տեղեկատվական տեխնոլոգիաները փոխակերպել են կյանքի տարբեր բնագավառները, այդ թվում նաև կրթությունը: «Տեղեկատվական տեխնոլոգիաների գործիքակազմի օգտագործումը լեզվի դասավանդման և ուսուցման գործընթացում» (ICT-REV) աշխատաժողովը խրախուսում է ուսումնասիրել կրթական տեխնոլոգիաների վերջին ձեռքբերումները և հայտնաբերել նորարարական մոտեցումներ, որոնք կարող են դասավանդումը տեղափոխել նոր մակարդակ:

Այս աշխատաժողովը մի շարք թեմաների է անդրադառնում. կրթական ներուժի արդյունավետ օգտագործումից, թվային հաղորդակցման գործիքներից մինչև մուլտիմեդիա աղբյուրներ՝ զարգացնելով սովորողների վերջնարդյունքները և բարձրացնելով ուսանողների ներգրավվածությունը ուսումնական գործընթացին:

Աշխատաժողովի ընթացքում մասնակիցները հնարավորություն ունեն ներգրավվելու գործնական առաջադրանքներում, համագործակցելու այլ ուսուցիչների հետ, և սովորելու տվյալ բնագավառում փորձագետներից:

Ինտերակտիվ հարցումներ ստեղծելուց մինչև վիդեո կոնֆերանս օգտագործելով՝ այս աշխատաժողովը նախագծված է , որպեսզի Ձեզ օգնի զարգացնել Ձեր գործնական հմտությունները, որոնք Դուք անմիջապես կարող եք օգտագործել Ձեր դասավանդման գործընթացում:

It is not a secret that a successful education system of a country represents an important element of its social and economic development. In this difficult period, when the whole world fights against the coron avirus, we had an excellent training organised by professional experts. The two-day  training workshop helped our participants to develop an integrated approach to learning and using languages across the curriculum and helped our subject teachers to develop their abilities in defining the linguistic objectives in their respective subjects. Well organised group work facilitated cooperation between language teachers and subject teachers. During the group work participants created plans and activities which they can use during their teaching, with clearly defined language goals and subject goals. After each group work participants presented the results of their activities and exchanged their ideas.

Thanks to the professional moderators, participants were motivated and inspired during the workshop. They became familiar with a lot of useful tools that will help them to increase their students’ awareness of the language competence required in the language of schooling in order to achieve educational success.

Գաղտնիք չէ, որ երկրի հաջողակ կրթական համակարգը նրա սոցիալ-տնտեսական զարգացման կարևոր տարրն է։Այս դժվարին ժամանակահատվածում, երբ ամբողջ աշխարհը պայքարում է կորոնավիրուսի դեմ, մենք հրաշալի  վերապատրաստում անցկացրինք պրոֆեսիոնալ փորձագետների կողմից։Այդ երկօրյա արդյունավետ վերապատրաստումը օգնեց մեր մասնակիցներին ինտեգրված մոտեցում ունենալ ուսումնական ծրագրում լեզուներ սովորելու և օգտագործելու հարցում, օգնեց մեր այլ առարկաների ուսուցիչներին զարգացնել իրենց կարողությունները՝  առարկայի դասավանդման ժամանակ լեզվական նպատակները սահմանելու համար: Լավ կազմակերպված խմբակային աշխատանքները նպաստեցին լեզվի ուսուցիչների և այլ առարկաների ուսուցիչների համագործակցությանը: Այդ խմբային աշխատանքների ընթացքում մասնակիցները ստեղծեցին պլաններ և գործնական աշխատանքներ, որոնք նրանք կարող են օգտագործել իրենց դասավանդման ընթացքում, որոնց մեջ հստակորեն սահմանված  էր լեզվական նպատակները և առարկայական նպատակները: Յուրաքանչյուր խմբային աշխատանքից հետո անդամները ներկայացրեցին իրենց ածխատանքների  արդյունքները և փոխանակեցին իրենց մտքերը:Պրոֆեսիոնալ փորձագետների շնորհիվ բոլոր մասնակիցները մոտիվացված և ոգեշնչված էին  ամբողջ երկու օրերի ընթացքում: Նրանք ստացան  բազմաթիվ օգտակար գործիքներ, որոնք դրական ազդեցություն կունենան յուրաքանչյուրի դասավանդման մեթոդիկայի վրա՝ կրթական հաջողությունների հասնելու համար։

As teachers we sometimes find it so difficult to come up with intended learning outcomes per lesson especially when it comes to targeting soft and/or transferrable skills, competences, and attitudes. We often claim that assessing knowledge is easy, since we deal with factual information, yet skills and competences sometimes turn into a nightmare. FREPA(*) descriptors provide an excellent opportunity for teachers to opt for an array of skills and attitudes they will find appropriate for their own curriculum and in line with the National Qualifications Framework of Armenia. The training guided the participants and provided hands-up tool to integrate FREPA into the curriculum thus turning their intended learning outcomes into achievable targets.

As has been very precisely highlighted by one of the participants of the workshop-training, we have witnessed a number of turbulent periods; we have been school children during the Soviet Union, when we were taught mostly by grammar-translation method, with very small accent on production, then after the independence, when undertaking our higher education, we were taught that it is no good to compare languages while teaching those, because of negative interference, and after graduation, when participating in an array of training, workshops and seminars we have been exposed to the conviction that no languages should be taught in isolation, since nothing in this world can exist if it does not coexist with other things.

This particular training came to ascertain our conviction that being aware of differences helps to avoid interference. Among other important and key ideas the participants have harvested, the one that will definitely turn into a slogan states that “Every opportunity should be grasped in order to encourage pupils to use knowledge and competences acquired in languages they are taught or know, in order to highlight points of convergence, and to help them to understand how languages work, and to develop their plurilingual repertoires in an optimal way”. 

This workshop is unique in its kind, since it is thoroughly tailored in line with the needs of the target audience, it is not a mass event, where the only thing the participants get is networking, spending their time, and if fortunate enough, learning something new.

Ինչպես իրավացիորեն նշվեց աշխատաժողովի մասնակիցներից մեկի կողմից, մենք ականատես ենք եղել մի շարք վայրիվերումների. մասնավորապես՝ դպրոցական տարիներին սովորել ենք հիմնականում քերականական-թարգմանական մեթոդով, Սովետական Միության փլուզումից հետո մեզ հավաստիացնում էին, որ չի կարելի լեզու դասավանդել այլ լեզուների հետ համեմատությամբ, քանզի առկա տարբերությունները կարող են շփոթի առարկա դառնալ, բուհն ավարտելուց հետո այն աշխատաժողովները, սեմինարներն ու վերապատրաստումները, որոնց մասնակցում էինք «աղաղակում» էին, որ ոչ մի լեզու չի կարող մեկուսացված դասավանդվել, թեկուզ և այն պարզ պատճառով, որ բնության մեջ ոչինչ մեկուսի չէ և չի կարող գոյություն ունենալ, եթե չգոյակցի այլ երևույթների կամ իրերի հետ: Սույն աշխատաժողովը եկավ արմատավորելու մեր այն համոզմունքը, որ անհրաժեշտ է ի ցույց դնել լեզուների միջև գոյություն ունեցող տարբերությունները՝ բացասական 4 միջամտությունից խուսափելու համար: Աշխատաժողովի ընթացքում ստացված գաղափարներից թերևս ամենաթևավորը, որը կարգախոսի էր վերածվել բոլոր մասնակիցների համար այն է, որ յուրաքանչյուր հնարավորություն պետք է օգտագործվի, որպեսզի սովորողներին խրախուսվի օգտագործել այն գիտելիքները և հմտությունները, որ ստացել են լեզուների ուսուցման ընթացքում, որպեսզի օգնենք նրանց հասկանալ, թե ինչպես են լեզուներն աշխատում, ինչպես նաև օպտիմալ կերպով զարգացնենք սովորողների բազմալեզվական ռեպերտուարը: Սույն աշխատաժողովը յուրօրինակ է իր տեսակի մեջ, քանզի այն լիովին թիրախահեն է. լիովին արտացոլում է մասնակիցների կարիքները և այն չի կարելի դասել այնպիսի աշխատաժողովների շարքին, որոնք մասսայական բնույթ են կրում, և դրանց միակ ավելացված արժեքն այն է, որ հնարավորություն են ընձեռում կապեր հաստատել, ժամանակ անցկացնել, և, լավագույն դեպքում՝ ինչ-ինչ բաներ սովորել:

On 3-4 May 2018, for the first time, an international training and workshop for German specialists "Electronic European Language Portfolio Supporting local networks in using an electronic European Language Portfolio" was held in Photon College in Gyumri, Armenia,  with the support of the European Centre for Modern Languages of the Council of Europe.

The e-Portfolio, which is successfully implemented in the content of study programmes in different Council of Europe member states, has promoted the assessment and self-assessment of linguistics skills and competences of the learners through a well-developed set of descriptors. The European Language Portfolio is known to the Armenian teachers and learners, but the e-Portfolio is almost an unknown tool for them, hence is needed to be developed and practiced widely to promote the better assessment of the learners’ linguistic skills and competences.

The ECML experts - Dr. Bärbel Kühn (coordinator), University of Bremen and Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany / Dr. Michael Langner, University of Fribourg, Switzerland - who were very much experienced in moderating such workshops in many countries of the world, provided the trainees with the new methodology, equipped them with the new skills and competences so as to help them to meet the requirements of contemporary linguistic education.

The outcomes of the workshop were very efficient, all the participants were happy with the content and the results. 

The number of the people who sent us the letter of interest was more than the number of accepted participants, unfortunately it was not possible to engage all of them in the workshop. The great interest in the topic of the workshop is proven by the fact that language specialists are eager to update their professional skills and competences.

The workshop participants were welcomed by Gevorg  Ghumashyan, Head of the Department of Education of the Shirak Marz (Region) at the opening session of the workshop, and the local TV has done a news report on the event.

Ս.թ. մայիսի 3-4-ը առաջին անգամ անցկացվեց գերմաներենի մասնագետների միջազգային վերապատրաստում-սեմինար Գյումրու Ֆոտոն վարժարանում: Թեման՝ «Ժամանակակից էլեկտրոնային լեզվական թղթապանակը գերմաներենի ուսուցիչների համար», որն իրականացվում է Եվրոպայի խորհրդի ժամանակակից լեզուների եվրոպական կենտրոնի աջակցությամբ:

Ժամանակակից կրթության մեջ ակտիվորեն կիրառվող Լեզվական թղթապանակը լավագույն գործիքներից մեկն է, որը հաջողությամբ ներդրված է Եվրոպայի խոհրդի տարբեր երկրներում՝ նպաստելով սովորողների լեզվական գիտելիքների, կարողությունների և հմտությունների գնահատմանը՝ հստակորեն մշակված ցուցիչների միջոցով, որոնք կարող են նաև կիրառվել հենց սովորողների կողմից որպես հաջող ինքնագնահատման գործիք: Եվրոպական լեզվական թղթապանակին ծանոթ են նաև ՀՀ ուսուցիչները, սակայն վերջին զարգացումները, հատկապես կապված առցանց թղթապանակի արդյունավետ կիրառման հետ, ոչ բոլորին է դեռ ծանոթ, և վերապատրաստման ընթացքում փորձագետները կիրազեկեն մասնակիցներին դրա արդյունավետ կիրառման ձևերի մասին:

Վերապատրաստման համար Գյումրի ժամանեցին ԺԼԵԿ-ի երկու եվրոպական փորձագետ՝Բարբել Կունը՝ Բրեմենի համալսարանից /Գերմանիա/ և Միքայել Լանգները՝ Ֆրայբուրգի համալսարանից/ Շվեյցարիա/, որոնք բազմաթիվ վերապատրաստումներ էին անցկացրել վերջին տարիների ընթացքում տարբեր երկրներում, և փորձառու ամսնագետները վերապատրաստման երկու օրերի ընթացքում նրանք նորագույն մեթոդաբանություն փոխանցեցին վերապատրաստվողներին՝ օգնելու նրանց քայլել ժամանակի հետ համընթաց:

Վերապատրաստման արդյունքները տպավորիչ էին, և ցավոք սրտի հնարավոր չեղավ ընդգրկել բոլոր ցանկացողներին: Մեծ հետաքրքրությունը թեմայի նկատմամբ ապացուցւում է այն փաստը, որ լեզվի մասնագետները նորովի են ցանկանում կազմակերպել ուսուցման գործընթացը և կարիք ունեն իրենց մասնագիտական հմտությունների և կարողությունների թարմացման և արդիականացման: Միջոցառմանը ուղջույնի խոսքով դիմեց Շիրակի մարզի մարզպետարանի կրթության բաժնի պետ Գևորգ Ղումաշյանը, միջոցառումը լուսաբանվեց տեղական հեռուստատեսությամբ:

CLIL is a relatively new approach to learning where content is learnt through the foreign language in an integrated way so that language learning is linked with other areas of the curriculum. The advantages of this approach are that the teaching is focused on content whilst language is used for an authentic purpose and is assimilated in a natural context. This can firstly boost learners’ motivation to learn languages. The Armenian education institutions are in their initial stage to implement CLIL in the content of study programmes.

CLIL trainings and CLIL education in general will enable teachers to identify the appropriate content to be taught, to view the content from different cultural perspectives, deploy strategies to support language learning in content classes, to scaffold language learning during content classes by learning specialized vocabulary, etc. All in all, through CLIL approach one can develop crucial intercultural attitudes, critical cultural awareness and action taking, hereinafter.

All the participants of the workshop were happy with the results of the event as they got new portion of professional knowledge and skills which they may further use in their teaching practice.

Since the content of CLIL is new to the educators in Armenia, we hope that the trained experts later will act as multipliers by introducing the main ideas of CLIL to smaller groups at their education institutions.

Լեզվի ուսուցման նոր մոտեցումները,որոնք հնարավոր է զարգացնել կրթական բոլոր դասընթացների միջոցով, կարևոր գործիք է շաղկապելու օտար լեզուները և կրթական ծրագրերը: Բովանդակային և լեզվի ինտեգրված ուսուցումը միաժամանակ խթանում է սովորողների և լեզվական և առարկայական հմտությունների և կարողությունների զարգացումը: ՀՀ կրթական հաստատություններն առաջին քայլերն են անում ներմուծելու ԲԼԻՈՒ մոտեցումը կրթական ծրագրերի բովանդակության մեջ:

Բովանդակային և լեզվի ինտեգրված ուսուցումը հնարավոորություն է ընձեռում ուսուցիչներին կենտրոնանալ բովանդակային խնդիրների վրա, ձևավորել սովորողների միջմշակութային  հմտությունները և միջմշակութային վերաբերմունք: Հատուկ բառապաշարի ներմուծումը կարևոր դերակատարություն ունի այս գործում:

On 4 and 5 December 2017 the Pluriliteracies team met with national representatives from Armenia, Austria, Montenegro and Norway who had applied for an ECML training and consultancy event to be held in their respective countries.

The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the Pluriliteracies Framework for Deeper Learning to the national representatives, to find ways of adapting the content and methods of our training offer to the specific needs of the target countries and to schedule dates for the trainings to be held in 2018.

The meeting also gave our team the invaluable opportunity to discuss the latest developments of our model, especially the Revised Pluriliteracies Framework for Deeper Learning which was introduced in a number of recent publications and has already found its way into CLIL teacher training curricula e.g. in Germany (Berlin) and Finland. The team also seized the opportunity to share best practice dissemination activities based on previous training experience in the ECML member states and to improve the exchange of materials by establishing a digital platform.

„Pluriliterales Lernen im Sachfach“ : Fortbildungs- und Beratungsangebot des EFSZ in Armenien, Montenegro, Norwegen und Österreich Netzwerktreffen (Graz, Österreich, 4.-5. Dezember 2017)

Am 4.-5. Dezember 2018 traf sich das Pluriliteracies-Team mit VertreterInnen aus Armenien, Montenegro, Norwegen und Österreich, die sich für Lehrerfortbildungen im Rahmen des Fortbildungs- und Beratungsprogramms des Europäischen Fremdsprachenzentrums (EFSZ) beworben hatten.

Der Zweck des Treffens bestand darin, die Kontaktpersonen in den Bewerberländern und deren spezifische Situationen und Erfordernisse kennenzulernen, ihnen neue Entwicklungen in Bezug auf unser Pluriliterales Lehr-/Lernmodell vorzustellen und ein Fortbildungsangebot zu entwickeln, das auf die speziellen Bedürfnisse der Lehrenden in den jeweiligen Ländern zugeschnitten ist sowie konkrete Termine für die Fortbildungen zu vereinbaren.

Das Treffen war für uns auch eine wertvolle Gelegenheit, uns persönlich über Neuentwicklungen sowie aktuelle und geplante Veröffentlichungen der Teammitglieder auszutauschen. Die Relevanz unseres Modells zeigt sich unter anderem darin, dass es mittlerweile Einzug in Lehr- und Ausbildungspläne z.B. in Deutschland (Berlin) und Finnland gefunden hat.

Ein weiteres Ergebnis des Treffens bestand darin, dass sich die Teammitglieder über die bisher durchgeführten Fortbildungen ausgetauscht und best practice-Aktivitäten zusammengestellt haben, die nun allen Teammitgliedern auf einer internen digitalen Plattform zur Verfügung stehen.

On 2 March 2018 fifteen local organisers from Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Norway, Poland, Slovenia and “the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia” met ECML expert teams to prepare national training events in the areas of Plurilingual education (“FREPA - Plurilingual and intercultural competences: descriptors and teaching materials”) and Online technology (“ICT-rev - Use of ICT in support of language teaching and learning”).

These events are examples of the ECML offer of Training and Consultancy for member states - bilateral support responding to specific national priorities whereby previously successful ECML project teams share their expertise with national authorities and local experts to devise and implement in-country activities, tailored to the particular context and target audience.

A big thank you to national organisers and expert teams for their support and cooperation in preparing the delivery  of 8 ICT-REV and 4 FREPA training activities for professionals in language education in these nine countries.

The promotion of various mobility and exchange programmes is one of the priorities of schools, vocational and tertiary educational institutions in Armenia, which is targeted at improving the foreign language skills, development of transversal skills to live and work in a multicultural environment which is in line with the global changes and challenges.

The training workshop "Plurilingual and intercultural learning through mobility" was organised for the school and university language teachers, student teachers, language teacher volunteers to train them to prepare the learners for activities before, during and after mobility projects and to increase the quality assurance and capacities of institutions in internationalization.

The intercultural, personal and other skills which are relevant for preparing the learners for active participation in mobility programmes may be developed through different tools and methods which are elaborated within such projects as the European Language Portfolio, the Autobiography of Language Encounters, the European Portfolio for Language Teacher Students. The workshop participants used various tools to develop lesson plans which were based on different language scenarios. The language plans were introduced to the participants and discussed by other participants as well as the experts. 

The ECML experts Kristin Brogan and Anna Czura with their broad experience guided the participants towards acquiring new skills to prepare the learners for mobility experiences and ensure the improvement of educational and professional potential of the participants to the full.
