Language and subject learning - hand in hand!

Come and share your experiences and learn more.

These hands-on training sessions are designed to increase participants’ awareness of the specific linguistic challenges within different school subjects so that pedagogical tools can be developed which integrate both linguistic and subject objectives.

Results and benefits

Short term

Subject teachers should be able to

  • have an increased awareness of the language challenges in subject learning in order to support L2-students and weak L1-students
  • identify learners’ individual needs
  • use pedagogical tools to integrate language and subject objectives
  • cooperate with language teachers

  • Systematic, whole-school-support of vulnerable learners throughout education
  • Increased self-evaluation skills for teachers and students

Training and consultancy offer

Trainings can be conducted in English or French.

This offer is targeted at subject teachers, teacher trainers, recently qualified teachers, language teachers collaborating with subject teachers, principals.

Training and consultancy on 

  • how to use CEFR language descriptors for subject learning
  • tools to integrate linguistic and subject matter objectives 
  • self-assessment, use of the pedagogical tools and adapting these to local needs​

The local organisers of the training, in advance, provide a description of the objectives of the training.
The team adapts tools to local needs during workshops.

Expected cooperation from local organisers requesting this offer

  • Specification of the objectives of the workshop and teachers’ needs 
  • Provision of infrastructure for the event and technical assistance (room, equipment, ICT expert, online platform ...)
  • Selection of appropriate participants and, and, if a participant is a language teacher, ask him or her to create a pair and come with a teacher of a non-linguistic subject;
  • Documentation of the event
