Call for Testimonials –
ECML Colloquium on Regional and Minority Languages

As s follow-up to the ECML Colloquium “Multiple voices in the classroom: Harnessing the power of regional and minority languages in secondary education” (Graz, 4 December 2025), we are looking to expand the original  short video compilation featuring personal stories from migrants (from other regions of the country or other countries) who learned a regional or minority language (RML) during their education. The purpose of the video is to showcase real-life experiences and highlight how learning an RML has positively impacted individuals – personally, socially, and professionally. These voices help to bring the colloquium’s theme to life and promote inclusive, plurilingual education.

We kindly ask for your support in identifying individuals who:

  • Migrated or recently arrived and attended school in a region where an RML is taught
  • Learned an RML during that time and are willing to share their experience on camera
  • Can speak about how the language influenced their sense of belonging, education, and/or career

Each testimonial should be 15–20 seconds long, and could answer one of the following questions:

  • How has learning the RML opened new personal or professional opportunities for you?
  • In what ways has knowing the RML helped in your studies, career, or social life?
  • What positive impact has the language had on your future plans?

Testimonies would need to be recorded and submitted in advance of the colloquium. Videos can be made in any European language. For languages other than English or French, please provide a translation.

With participants’ consent, the video will be shown at the colloquium and may be shared via ECML and NPLD communication channels.
If your institution, or organisation is in contact with individuals who match this profile – or if you’d like to support this initiative – please contact us at [email protected].

Thank you very much for your collaboration.
