10th EDiLiC conference: Call for papers – deadline: 10 November 2022
10th International Conference of the Education and Linguistic and Cultural Diversity Association (EDiLiC) will take place in person at the University of Copenhagen on 28-30 June 2023. It will be a forum for dialogue between all those engaged in research and practice in plurilingual education, pluricultural education, in Content and Language Integrated Learning, and the intersections between these fields. The particular focus of the conference will be on spaces of transitions, continuity, and disruptions across educational levels and learning contexts from early childhood to adulthood.
So far, the EDiLiC conferences have been held in France, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland. Copenhagen as the venue for the 10th EDiLiC conference opens new opportunities for collaborations between the Nordic countries and the countries that are traditionally represented in EDiLiC.
Presentation of papers, workshops, and panel sessions can take place in English, French, and the Scandinavian languages.

RELANG tools to align Danish tests and examinations to the Common European Framework of Reference and Companion Volume

On 12-13 March 2019, the ECML Contact Point Denmark - The Danish National Centre for Foreign Languages - invited ECML experts in Copenhagen to provide a training and consultancy on Relating foreign language curricula to Common European Framework of Reference (RELANG). The aim of the training and consultancy activity using RELANG tools was to improve the alignment of Danish tests and examinations to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and Companion Volume. The focus was in particular on tests and examinations in upper secondary schools.
The participants (language teachers at university and university college, primary, secondary and upper secondary school and language consultants at the Ministry of Education) were inspired and received inspiration and clear directions on how to relate existing Danish tests and examinations to CEFR levels and descriptors. Participants gained a deeper knowledge of CEFR descriptors and received practical guidance on how to revise learning outcomes and link them to relevant CEFR levels. Participants worked on all linking phases: familiarization, specification, standardization and benchmarking. The participants were also asked to develop valid exams items for oral and written production related to the CEFR and Companion Volume. In addition, external assessment materials provided by the Danish participants and ECML experts were discussed during the training and the participants tried to link them to the CEFR levels. Some of the RELANG materials will be adapted/modified to fit a particular institutional context.

Preparing the 2019 series of ECML training and consultancy workshops in Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denmark, Greece, and Poland
The ECML expert team of the activity “A pluriliteracies approach to teaching for learning” discussed details of their 2019 training workshops with local organisers from Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denmark, Greece, and Poland at the ECML in Graz.
More information on the individual training sessions will soon be available on the dedicated website.

Just published : Courriel européen des langues – Issue no. 40, the e-magazine of the National Contact point for the ECML in France
The “Courriel européen des langues”, the online magazine which is edited twice a year by the International Centre for Pedagogical Studies (CIEP), has been relaunched with renewed contents and a refreshing layout. The current issue highlights 6 ongoing ECML projects, giving the floor to the project coordinators and a project team member, as well as to teachers in the field. In addition, the National Contact Point for the ECML highlights the new national language strategy in Denmark. Finally, a section presents 11 recent resources (online materials, publications).
The Courriel is disseminated in French on the CIEP website and on its LISEO portal (see dedicated section “Courriel européen des langues”). You can subscribe for free to the Magazine and find the archives here: http://www.ciep.fr/lettres-information/courriel-europeen-langues.

The School of Communication and Culture of Aarhus University, the National Contact Point and Nominating Authority for the ECML in Denmark, has developed this resource. Apart from the ECML projects, it is intended to add other language pedagogical projects.

The training and consultancy workshop that took place in Copenhagen on 25-26 April, was held within the final conference of the DELA-NOBA project, which focused on the development of language awareness in the Nordic and Baltic countries (project financed by Nordplus Horizontal). It was comprised of two sections:
- a training component within the DELA-NOBA final conference (25 April), with the aim of broadening current perspectives to move towards other pluralistic approaches beyond language awareness, and in particular the integrated didactics of languages;
- an advisory component (26 April), more explicitly designed for educational leaders and Danish teacher trainers, regarding the contribution of FREPA descriptors in defining educational objectives for the teaching of languages to young children.
The participants, both those with or without previous expertise in the area of language awareness, expressed their willingness to engage in a global perspective of plurilingual and intercultural training supported by pluralistic approaches and by FREPA. The event provided the opportunity to work with teachers on the one hand, and with researchers and teacher trainers on the other, the latter having the chance to cooperate with educational decision-makers. Follow-up actions are foreseen, both in the field of teacher training and in international cooperation through the creation of an online platform.
