Flipboard, a creator of personalised online magazines

News aggregators

Description: Flipboard is a content curation platform that aggregates news, articles, and multimedia content based on user interests. Users can create personalised digital magazines by "flipping" articles into their collections. Flipboard is free to use and does not require logging in to browse content. However, to personalize content and create collections, users need to sign up.

Evaluation: Flipboard can be a valuable tool for teachers, who can use it to compile interesting texts to read and share them with students. It can also bolster collaborative work among learners when producing their own magazines in groups, for example.

Cost: Free.

Respect for privacy Privacy evaluations indicate how a tool handles personal data collection, storage, and sharing, including GDPR compliance and security measures, among others. The ICT-REV team provides them for informational purposes, reflecting our best understanding at the time of review, but assumes no legal responsibility for the accuracy or completeness of these evaluations and encourages users to conduct their own assessments: Medium/low. Flipboard collects user data such as online identifiers (IP address, cookie IDs, and device ID) and shares it with or sells it to third parties for targeted advertising on and off Flipboard. Users are allowed to opt out of this policy of data selling. Flipboard employs industry-standard security measures. It does not explicitly state compliance with the GDPR, but it mentions user rights specific to the EU’s legal framework. See more here.
