I work as a counsellor of education in Finnish National Agency for Education. My work includes the development of education and learning of immigrant learners in general education, developing the area, and giving support for the implementation of the national core curricula. I am an assistant professor for media education and language education (with a focus on Romance languages) at the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Graz and hold lectures and training courses on media education topics at various universities in Austria. I was principal of a multilingual primary school with pupils from more than fifty home language backgrounds. An integrated plurilingual approach to language teaching and learning was developed where all learners were encouraged to use their plurilingual repertoires. Currently I am an Associate Partner of the ECML PA-LINGUI project: Making early language learning visible 2020-2023. I was a network member of the ILLEY project: Inspiring language learning in the early years 2016-2019; and a team member of the ECML Think Tank that dealt with early language learning 2016. I was also a participant at two ECML workshops Parents 2012-2015 and PlurCurr 2012-2015.

Robert O'Dowd is Associate Professor (professor titular) for English as a Foreign Language and Applied Linguistics at the University of León, Spain. He has taught at universities in Ireland, Germany and Spain and has over 40 publications on the application of Virtual Exchange in university and pre-university education settings. One of his most recent books is the co-edited volume 'Online Intercultural Exchange: Policy, Pedagogy, Practice' for Routledge. He recently coordinated INTENT and EVALUATE– Erasmus+ projects aimed at promoting Virtual Exchange in European Higher Education. He was the founding president of the UNICollaboration academic organization for telecollaboration and virtual exchange (www.unicollaboration.org). I am specialised in language education in the context of migration and multilingualism and was a lecturer at the University College of Education Upper Austria (PHOÖ) from 2007 until my retirement in 2021. Beside teaching, I coordinated international projects and headed the Centre for Linguistic Diversity and Transculturality. My main areas of work are teacher education, language-sensitive teaching and language of schooling, second language didactics, CLIL, plurilingual and intercultural education. She has extensive experience in various developmental and administrative duties related to subject teacher education in Finland and abroad. I have coordinated the Training- and-Consultancy-activity "Working with an elelctronic European Language Portfolio (eELP) for better language learning" since years. Ana Halbach is professor of English in the Department of Modern Languages at the Universidad de Alcalá (Spain). She is currently involved in a research project funded through an ARAG grant, focusing on explaining the curbed impact of students’ SES on their motivation and academic performance in bilingual education programs. She also collaborates in the Erasmus+ project “Literacy teaching in CLIL” and is involved in various teacher training projects in collaboration with other institutions. In 2017 she was commissioned by the Comunidad de Madrid to design the new advanced curriculum for English in bilingual secondary schools. Ana has published widely both nationally and internationally.

María del Carmen Méndez García is a senior lecturer at the Department of English Philology, University of Jaén. She has done research on the cultural component in EFL material, intercultural competence and intercultural communication. She is the author of books, books chapters and articles on intercultural competence and foreign language education. She has participated in international projects such as ‘International Competence for Professional Mobility’, funded by the European Commission. She has cooperated with the Language Policy Division/Unit of the Council of Europe in the development of the Autobiography of Intercultural Encounters and the Autobiography of Intercultural Encounters through Visual Media.

What I want to say about myself:

I am currently working as an Education Officer and Manager of Teaching and Learning at Post-Primary Languages Ireland, a unit of the Department of Education. Our remit it to diversify, enhance and expand the teaching and learning of languages in second-level schools throughout Ireland. We also have responsibility for implementing key actions in Languages Connect – Ireland’s Strategy for Foreign Languages in Education 2017-2026. I am currently overseeing the development and integration homes languages in the secondary school curriculum through blended and online courses. I oversee the development of intercultural guidelines for post-primary schools, as well as participating in Department grops for policy and curriculum development, including the introduction of MFL in primary education in Ireland. I also develop and deliver CPD for MFL teachers across a numbers of areas and support schools and teachers in their language provision. I provides expertise in language pedagogy to relevant agencies.

What I want to say about myself:

I am a full professor at the Faculty of Education of the University of Ottawa (Canada) and an adjunct professor at Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic). I have previously held the positions of Vice-Provost, Academic Affairs, and Associate Vice-President, Teaching and Learning at the University of Ottawa, as well as Director of the French School and Associate Vice-President for Language Schools and Graduate Programs at Middlebury College, USA. Since 2008, I have been collaborating on projects related to educational technologies at the European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML). My research and publications focus on post-secondary teaching approaches and programs, creativity, innovation, plurilingualism, and interculturalism in language teaching, as well as faculty development, participatory training models, speech technologies, and the integration of active pedagogy into e-learning practices. I am also the recipient of the 3M National Teaching Fellow Award, a prestigious Canadian award for excellence and leadership in higher education.
