Flubaroo

Principal function(s): Marking and feedbackIndividual workTeacherYou Supply

Flubaroo is an extension for Google designed to grade assignments and quizzes. It automates the grading process by analysing student responses and providing instant feedback. Users, primarily educators, can employ Flubaroo for grading conducted via Google Forms. Flubaroo is free, but users need to have a Google account and install the Flubaroo add-on in Google Sheets. Flubaroo was developed by Dave Abouav, a software developer. Evaluation: Flubaroo is particularly helpful and time-saving for teachers since it automatises grading, generates detailed performance reports, and facilitates data analysis of grades. It has a moderate learning curve, mainly requiring familiarity with Google Sheets and Forms, so average IT skills are sufficient for use. Its website is easy to navigate, but it still includes a complete step-by-step written tutorial about how to use the tool, a video tutorial, and a discussion forum.

Cost: Free without registration. The browser extension must be installed, together with Flubaroo's Google Sheets add-on extension..

Medium. Flubaroo is not profit-oriented and only collects non-identifiable user data for the improvement of its services. Nevertheless, it works through Google Apps and requires access to users’ Google Drive units, but claims that there is no alternative to it for its use. It claims that access rights to Google Drive Units are requested to perform actions, while textual content of users' files are not transmitted to third-party services. The policy does not provide extensive details about security measures but emphasises that no student data is stored outside users’ Google Drive units. The policy mentions compliance with the Family Educational Records and Privacy Act (FERPA), indicating an understanding of regulations related to children’s rights. Flubaroo’s privacy policy does not mention compliance with the GDPR. See more here.
