Discord

Discord is an open source conferencing tool which allows users to communicate with their friends and communities on their own server or through direct messaging. The free version gives each user an option to create one server for free. Using this server the host can set permissions for the participants as well as create separate channels where they can communicate with each other. With the tool, users can also stream (limit of 10 viewers), share their screens and listen to music with the help of a bot. Members can be tagged, so they don’t miss information that is directed toward them. Another option for saving information are pins which are limited to 50 pins per channel in a server.

Evaluation: With its multiple functions it is an excellent way for bigger groups to discuss and collaborate on projects or other tasks. It could be used, for example, by a teacher and a group of students, or a group of students or teachers who need to work and /or share information together.

Cost: Free with registration + premium plans
