The European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML) is seeking applications from experts from Andorra, Denmark, Luxembourg, Serbia and „the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia“ to participate in the following 2-day workshop which takes place on 12-13 December in Graz, Austria, within the framework of the Centre’s project “European portfolio for student teachers of pre-primary education” (Préélémentaire, 2013-2015).

The project will develop a tool for reflective practice in initial teacher training, targeting professional competences and attitudes of teachers of 3 to 6 year olds with regard to languages and cultures. The tool will be based on the ECML publication European Portfolio for Student Teachers of Languages.

Deadline for nomination: 4 November 2013.

Working languages of the workshop: English, French and German, with simultaneous interpretation from French and German into English. All participants should therefore have listening comprehension in English at least at B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Participants: 1 delegate per member state of the ECML, to be nominated by the national nominating authorities.

Profile of participants:

  • Professional background: Experts directly involved in pre-service or in-service training of teachers at pre-school level or staff of institutions working with 3-6 year old children.
  • Experience, competences required: Experience in training (student) teachers or other staff in developing language competences of 3-6 year old children (in the language of schooling and/or a foreign language).
  • Expected involvement/tasks: Collection and discussion of examples of good practice and participation in the process of defining competences to be included in the Portfolio.
