Symbaloo

Principal function(s): Bookmarking

Symbaloo is an online based platform that allows users to organize, categorize and store their preferred or most visited websites on one page. Similar to a browser’s homepage, it enables saving often visited websites or pages with content one wishes to check later. Evaluation: Unlike a regular homepage of a browser, Symbaloo allows one to categorize and create pages with bookmarked websites, according to their content. For instance, one can list all your “News” websites on one side of the screen and on the other all your preferred “Shopping” websites. Symbaloo is quick and easy to use and its layout is more easily searchable than a regular browser homepage.

Playphrase (Tool to find the pronunciation of words from movies )

Playphrase is a tool that searches specific words or phrases out of movie snippets from a database of audiovisual media with over 60,000 phrases. In this manner, it provides real-life examples of words’ and sentences’ pronunciation. Users just have to type specific phrases, watch them being used naturally in context within popular movies and TV shows, and listen to their pronunciation. Playphrase works mainly with English. Playphrase is not open-source, but it is freely available. It does not require setting up an account or signing in. ... View details
