Teaching children about complex and challenging issues such as human rights, democracy, and the structure of Europe today may seem like a daunting task. Help is at hand, however, in the form of the Council of Europe’s educational booklet: '47 States and one Organisation… the Council of Europe' that may prove a valuable classroom aid for teachers as teachers educate their pupils about the world around them.

This pocket-sized guide has been designed for children aged between 12 and 14, and features bright, eye-catching graphics and pictures to ensure that they will want to keep turning the pages. Key ideas – including human rights, the importance of education, and protecting nature, culture and languages – are conveyed in simple, concise language which makes the topic understandable and age-appropriate without sacrificing the factual content. A map and a country factsheet have also been included.

Printed copies may be ordered from: docrequest@coe.int
