Digital Dialects, Website with games for 79 languages Website with games for 79 languages

Autonomous learningGame apps

Description: Digital Dialects is a website offering interactive language learning games and activities for 79 languages, sorted into different topics. Users navigate the site to access language-specific games to practice vocabulary, grammar, spelling, phrases, and scripts or alphabets. Vocabulary lists are accompanied by audio for practising pronunciation and listening skills. Exercises can be used for independent learning and in the classroom. The website also provides information about culture and language, links to other useful resources, and language learning tips. Digital Dialects was developed by Craig Gibson. It is freely accessible online without the need for signing up or having an account.

Evaluation: Digital Dialects is a useful resource for learning dozens of languages. It is particularly suitable for younger learners due to its interactive and gamified features. For teachers, it can provide supplementary resources to enhance classroom instruction and reinforce language concepts in a fun and engaging way. Importantly, it contains games in minority and endangered languages such as Cook Island Maori, Horami, Saami, Nuiean and Karelian, something that is not that common. No specific IT skills are required to use Digital Dialects, as it is straightforward and accessible to use.
