RedCircle

Principal function(s): Streaming/radio services

RedCircle is a podcasting host which allows users to host and distribute their podcasts. The platform gives users unlimited uploads and storage, as well as allows them to share content on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, YouTube and many other directories. Users can also check the platform’s built-in analytics to track and increase their audience. Podcast recordings need to be in mp3 or mp4 formats and cannot be larger than 200MB. Creators can upload an image for each recording or leave them without any, in which case the default image of the sharing platform is used. Creators can also choose titles, write short summaries and choose publishing dates. Evaluation: RedCircle is a suitable platform for teachers and students as it is easy to use and gives them a free option to express their creativity in any language. Users also get an email from the platform through which their listeners can contact them. Another great feature of the platform is that it finds advertisers for users and helps them earn money with it, although the platform keeps 30% of the revenue. Dynamic insertion allows users to add advertisements to older episodes as well.

Playphrase (Tool to find the pronunciation of words from movies )

Playphrase is a tool that searches specific words or phrases out of movie snippets from a database of audiovisual media with over 60,000 phrases. In this manner, it provides real-life examples of words’ and sentences’ pronunciation. Users just have to type specific phrases, watch them being used naturally in context within popular movies and TV shows, and listen to their pronunciation. Playphrase works mainly with English. Playphrase is not open-source, but it is freely available. It does not require setting up an account or signing in. ... View details
