Professional background:
Participants should have one of the following profiles:
 
  • heads of parents’ associations;
  • heads of cultural or language associations;
  • heads of teachers’ associations (for foreign languages, languages taught; languages of origin (languages of migration); national languages, languages of schooling; and all other subjects in the pre-school sector, in primary and secondary school);
  • representatives of teachers’ trade unions;
  • educators also involved with extra curricular/out of school activities ;
  • teacher trainers (of foreign or national languages and of all other subjects taught by pre-school, primary and secondary teachers);
  • educational policy makers;
  • school inspectors.
Experience, competences required
It is important that participants are in contact with the different parties involved in language education.
Expected involvement/tasks before, during and after the event
 
Before: finding out about developments in plurilingual and intercultural education (some information is available on the project website http://carap.ecml.at/Forparents/tabid/2892/language/en-GB/Default.aspx) and being aware of relevant issues relating to the involvement of parents in
 
During: participating actively in brainstorming activities, in drafting documents for wider dissemination and in developing activities to involve parents in plurilingual and intercultural education. Please make sure that you are able to stay until the end of the workshop which will last two and a-half days (from Monday, 28 April 2014 1pm until Wednesday, 30 April 2014, 5.30pm. This may mean that you are only able depart from Graz on 1 May).
 
After: actively promote approaches involving parents in plurilingual and intercultural education and knowledge concerning the effects of  plurilingual and intercultural education integrating parents, home languages and cultures. Keeping the project team informed about dissemination activities and contributing to the collection and description of methods to involve parents in the process.
 
The aim of the workshop is to develop an active network to disseminate educational practices to involve families in the development of plurilingual and intercultural education. This project is a mediation project which aims to bring together mediators in order to train a maximum number of educators in the approach presented.
