Welcome to the Inventory of freely available online tools, developed within the framework of the ICT REV project of the European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML). Audacity, an audio recording and editing tool

Audio recording

Description: Audacity is a software for recording, editing, and mixing audio tracks. It allows users to apply various effects, and export the final product in different formats. Audacity can be used for podcasting, music production, voiceovers, or sound editing for videos. It is free and open-source. It does not require signing up or having an account to use, but it does have to be installed.

Evaluation: Audacity is a valuable tool for numerous audio-based tasks. It is a versatile software that lends itself to different possible pedagogical and didactic uses such as podcasting, music composition, or creating oral exercises for language learning. Audacity can seem slightly complex at first, but once mastered, usage becomes relatively easy.

Cost: Free without registration.

Respect for privacy Privacy evaluations indicate how a tool handles personal data collection, storage, and sharing, including GDPR compliance and security measures, among others. The ICT-REV team provides them for informational purposes, reflecting our best understanding at the time of review, but assumes no legal responsibility for the accuracy or completeness of these evaluations and encourages users to conduct their own assessments: Very high. Audacity anonymises IP addresses and does neither store nor share user information. Data collection is restrained to the very necessary for the tool’s functioning. Audacity’s privacy policy demonstrates an understanding of data security and an emphasis on user control over data. It complies with the GDPR. See more here.
