Welcome to the Inventory of freely available online tools, developed within the framework of the ICT REV project of the European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML). PBworks, a collaborative workspace platform

File sharing/syncing

Description: PBworks is a collaborative workspace platform designed for collaboration, communication, and project management. It offers a suite of tools, including wikis, document management, project tracking, and real-time collaboration features. Users can create customisable workspaces for storing, sharing, and collaborating on documents, tasks, and ideas. In its free version, a PBworks unit allows up to 100 students to use it. Signing up for a PBworks account is required to create workspaces, but students can be added to one without having one.

Evaluation: PBworks is a useful collaborative tool that can foster teamwork. It can serve the purposes of managing projects, assessing student performance, and communicating with students on one single platform.

Cost: Free with registration + paid premium plans.

Respect for privacy Privacy evaluations indicate how a tool handles personal data collection, storage, and sharing, including GDPR compliance and security measures, among others. The ICT-REV team provides them for informational purposes, reflecting our best understanding at the time of review, but assumes no legal responsibility for the accuracy or completeness of these evaluations and encourages users to conduct their own assessments: Medium. PBworks gathers personal information such as email addresses, full names, and billing information. It also collects cookies and displays third-party advertisements on its website. Importantly, users can decide to set their virtual space as private, limiting access to only specific users. It mentions implementing reasonable security measures to protect user data, although without detailing them. Also, PBworks allows users to edit data through their profiles on the site, providing user control. PBworks states compliance with the GDPR. See more here.
