Principal function(s): Quiz/exercise makers

A web-based tool for course organisation that provides opportunities for students to speak and for teachers to assess their speaking and listening ability. Teachers create spoken dialogues, dictations, pronunciation practice, oral exams, reading practice, image or video commentaries, and more. Registration is required. Evaluation: Lingt is a valuable and time-saving tool for teachers to assess students’ language abilities. Teachers can embed voice recordings into their assignments, as well as YouTube videos or images, so it is a flexible and customisable platform. Average IT skills are required.

High. Lingt does not collect any students’ user data but email addresses, but this is optional. For teachers, it collects email addresses, usernames and posted content information. Lingts also gathers browser cookies such as IP addresses but only for internal use. It does not share personal information with third parties for advertising. Lingt mentions reasonable security measures. It does not explicitly declare compliance with the GDPR. See more here.

Playphrase (Tool to find the pronunciation of words from movies )

Playphrase is a tool that searches specific words or phrases out of movie snippets from a database of audiovisual media with over 60,000 phrases. In this manner, it provides real-life examples of words’ and sentences’ pronunciation. Users just have to type specific phrases, watch them being used naturally in context within popular movies and TV shows, and listen to their pronunciation. Playphrase works mainly with English.
