Claude, an AI-powered assistant for writing, analysis, and coding

Note takingQuiz/exercise makersTranslation toolsGeneral-purpose AI assistants

Description: Claude is a sophisticated Large Language Model (LLM) that can assist users with complex tasks ranging from creative writing, to creating educational resources, data analysis to computer programming. As other chatbots, it works through an interface where users input prompts. Claude is accessible as a web-based platform and through mobile apps, requiring users to create an account for access and use. It offers a free version with limited credits for interaction, together with paid options. It is developed by Anthropic.

Evaluation: Claude is a useful tool for teachers and educators in assisting them to produce personalised teaching materials. It can be used for taking notes and summarizing texts, among many other functions. It is particularly notable for its “Projects” feature, which can help create personalised workspaces with different attachments and others; and “Artifacts” feature, which provides many different AI tools and customised chatbots. As with all other AI tools, ethical, copyright, and environmental considerations should be taken into account.

Cost: Free with limited interaction credits + paid plans available.

Respect for privacy Privacy evaluations indicate how a tool handles personal data collection, storage, and sharing, including GDPR compliance and security measures, among others. The ICT-REV team provides them for informational purposes, reflecting our best understanding at the time of review, but assumes no legal responsibility for the accuracy or completeness of these evaluations and encourages users to conduct their own assessments: Medium. Anthropic collects user interaction data to operate and improve its services, and employs cookies and usage patterns for marketing and research purposes. However, Anthropic does not automatically use conversations to train future iterations of Claude AI models or allows anyone to access them unless users specifically opt in via the settings. It stores data in its headquarters in the United States and other countries, where it may transfer personal data, which is kept for as long as needed and protected through measures that are standard for the industry. However, for users in the EU, it guarantees GDPR compliance for international data transfers. Anthropic acknowledges users’ rights to know which data is being processed, and access, edit, block, or erase it, among others. It does not state full alignment with the GDPR. See more here and here for a comparison with other AI chatbots.
