Inventory of ICT tools and open educational resources

Welcome to the Inventory of freely available online tools and OERs for language teaching and learning developed by the ICT REV project. The tools have been selected by and for language educators. There are different ways to search for tools and various examples below. You can also suggest a tool to be added to the Inventory.

ARASAAC, an online platform for students with learning impairments

Description: ty for individuals with speech, language, or cognitive impairments. It offers a vast collection of pictograms, graphic resources, and educational materials under a Creative Commons BY-NC-SA license, facilitating free, non-commercial use worldwide. ​The platform provides tools and applications such as AraWord (a word processor with text and pictograms), Picto Selector (an application for Windows designed to facilitate the selection and printing of communication boards with pictograms, images, and photographs), and PictogramAgenda (an application that facilitates the generation and use of visual agendas), among others. These resources are instrumental in supporting Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) strategies, aiding neurodiverse students and others to better express themselves. ARASAAC was developed and funded by the government of Aragon, Spain.

Evaluation: ARASAAC is a highly valuable platform that supports communication for individuals with speech, language, and cognitive impairments. Its vast library of free, high-quality pictograms and AAC tools makes it a very relevant resource for educators, therapists, caregivers, and families. The platform is engaging and practical, with a strong emphasis on inclusivity and accessibility. One of its major advantages is the Creative Commons licensing, allowing free, non-commercial use and adaptation of materials worldwide. ARASAAC also offers a course of AAC for educators, although this is available only in Spanish.

Respect for privacy Privacy evaluations indicate how a tool handles personal data collection, storage, and sharing, including GDPR compliance and security measures, among others. The ICT-REV team provides them for informational purposes, reflecting our best understanding at the time of review, but assumes no legal responsibility for the accuracy or completeness of these evaluations and encourages users to conduct their own assessments: Very high. ARASAAC, managed by the Government of Aragón, collects minimal personal data (name, email, company, website) solely for the management of its project activities. It uses essential cookies and Google Analytics for statistical and operational purposes. Data is stored securely on Aragonese (EU-based) servers and is not shared with third parties unless legally required. The platform provides users rights to access, rectify, delete, and limit the use of their data, together with the possibility to file complaints with the Spanish Data Protection Agency. ARASAAC complies fully with GDPR and Spanish data protection laws. See more here (only available in Spanish).
