Inventory of ICT tools

Welcome to the Inventory of freely available online tools, developed within the framework of the ICT REV project of the European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML). ARTE, a European broadcasting platform in six languages

Autonomous learning

Description: ARTE is a publicly owned joint French-German TV station that provides free access to hundreds of documentaries, series, films, and more. It features content in French, German, English, Spanish, Polish, and Italian. Some of the materials are accessible worldwide, while others have geographical limitations due to copyright. ARTE is free and does not require having an account for use, although logging in provides access to more functionalities. It has app and browser versions.

Evaluation: ARTE is a well-designed and accessible streaming service with quality content on interesting topics. It provides free access to hundreds of documentaries, films, and series in six European languages, although with geographical limitations due to copyright. Watching content on ARTE in the target language with or without subtitles is a fantastic way to access quality content while supporting a European-wide project with positive values such as gender equality and environmental protection.

Respect for privacy Privacy evaluations indicate how a tool handles personal data collection, storage, and sharing, including GDPR compliance and security measures, among others. The ICT-REV team provides them for informational purposes, reflecting our best understanding at the time of review, but assumes no legal responsibility for the accuracy or completeness of these evaluations and encourages users to conduct their own assessments: Very high. ARTE collects data collection and uses to a very reasonable extent, and there is a strong emphasis on user consent. It has industry-standard measures in place to guarantee personal data security and privacy. The extent of ARTE’s privacy policy elaborates in-depth on users’ control and rights over their personal data while being easy to understand. It complies with the GDPR. See more here.
