TV5 Monde, a public platform for learning French

Description: TV5 Monde is a tool for teaching and learning French, particularly aimed at improving listening comprehension. TV5 Monde offers over 3000 exercises from beginner (A1) to advanced levels (B2). It features videos accompanied by comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar exercises and divided into 30 topics. Users can also download the videos and exercises and use them offline. TV5 Monde also provides lots of audiovisual content for streaming in its website and app versions. It is free and does not require registration, although having an account provides additional functionalities.

Evaluation: TV5 Monde is a useful tool for learners and teachers of French. It allows students to practise their listening skills with hundreds of resources and work on their vocabulary and grammar skills autonomously. For teachers, it provides complementary materials for the classroom. TV5 Monde facilitates linguistic immersion for every learner since it is also suitable for complete beginners.

Respect for privacy Privacy evaluations indicate how a tool handles personal data collection, storage, and sharing, including GDPR compliance and security measures, among others. The ICT-REV team provides them for informational purposes, reflecting our best understanding at the time of review, but assumes no legal responsibility for the accuracy or completeness of these evaluations and encourages users to conduct their own assessments: High. TV5 Monde allows use without having an account, so it does not collect personal data. For registered users, it stores email addresses, names, passwords, and more. Also, it collects cookies, which users can configure. This data is gathered to create and manage user accounts, provide personalised content (not advertising), ensure website security, offer newsletters, and optimise the website's functionality. TV5 Monde shares personal data with certain internal departments, subcontractors, and third-party service providers who may need access to the data to perform specific tasks, like technical and marketing services for TV5 Monde. TV5 Monde commits to keeping personal data confidential and secure. It acknowledges users’ right to access, rectification, erasure, limitation, opposition, and data portability.
