Welcome to the Inventory of freely available online tools, developed within the framework of the ICT REV project of the European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML). CamStudio, a screen recording tool

Description: CamStudio is a tool for recording screen and audio activity for Windows. In addition to screen recording, it allows users to insert webcam footage, add captions, or narrate over footage. CamStudio is a free and open-source software that does not require signing up or having an account for use. It was developed by RenderSoft.

Evaluation: CamStudio is a practical screen recording tool suitable for educational purposes. Teachers can employ this tool to produce video tutorials explaining complex topics, language lessons, pronunciation guides, or speaking exercises. CamStudio can also foster students’ creativity by allowing learners to create their content and develop presentations, projects, or reports with video elements. Users can tailor the quality of a video recording to suit their needs, i.e., to send it as an attachment or to upload it online.

Respect for privacy Privacy evaluations indicate how a tool handles personal data collection, storage, and sharing, including GDPR compliance and security measures, among others. The ICT-REV team provides them for informational purposes, reflecting our best understanding at the time of review, but assumes no legal responsibility for the accuracy or completeness of these evaluations and encourages users to conduct their own assessments: High. CamStudio requires installation but not creating a user account, so data collection is minimal. As a desktop application, user data is stored on the user’s local device rather than a third party service. CamStudio.org protects all online visitor data against unauthorised access, and it does not sell, trade, or give personal information to other companies or organisations.
