Tweedback, a real-time audience feedback and interaction platform

Poll and survey creators

Description: Tweedback is an audience interaction platform that facilitates real-time, anonymous feedback and interaction in lectures, classrooms, meetings, and events (in-person, virtual, or hybrid). Participants can easily access sessions via a web browser on their preferred device (smartphone, tablet, PC) using a simple Session-ID, requiring no registration or app download. Its core tools include a Q&A chatwall, live polling/quizzes, and a "Panic Button" for immediate, non-interruptive feedback on the lecture's pace and understandability, among others. Tweedback offers a very comprehensive free plan. It is a web application and requires neither downloading any app nor login for participants, although creators need to have an account. It is 100% GDPR-compliant, hosted on German servers, and developed by the University of Rostock.

Evaluation: Tweedback is a useful tool to promote participation and gauge understanding of the content in large groups. Its primary advantage is its strong data privacy commitment (100% GDPR-compliant) and its anonymous feedback features (Panic Button), where participants can provide immediate feedback on, for example, speed and difficulty, which encourage honesty and engagement. The platform is highly accessible, requiring no app download or login for participants, and has a simple, intuitive interface. The tool promotes a deeper learning style by encouraging critical questioning and peer-to-peer cooperation (via voting). A minor limitation is the lack of built-in support for embedding rich media (audio/images/video) directly into its quizzes and polls.

Cost: Free very comprehensive paid + paid plans available.

Respect for privacy Privacy evaluations indicate how a tool handles personal data collection, storage, and sharing, including GDPR compliance and security measures, among others. The ICT-REV team provides them for informational purposes, reflecting our best understanding at the time of review, but assumes no legal responsibility for the accuracy or completeness of these evaluations and encourages users to conduct their own assessments: High. Tweedback collects no personal information from participants without an account, and only minimal personal information for those who do, primarily name and email address when users purchase services or subscribe to the newsletter. However, it automatically collects temporary log file information (e.g., date, time, browser, anonymized IP addresses) for system stability and security. Also, Tweedback shares user data with different service providers for operational purposes, such as hosting, database management, email delivery, and billing, but protects this transfer through legally binding agreements, committing third parties to EU data protection standards. User data is protected using SSL encryption during transmission and is stored using technical and organizational security measures. Tweedback uses cookies and Matomo tracking for analytics, but it anonymizes IP addresses and keeps the analytics data internal. It acknowledges users’ rights to access, erasure, objection, and withdrawal of consent. Tweedback fully complies with the GDPR. See morehere.
