Pixabay, a free image, illustration, graphic, and video bank

Image banks

Description: Pixabay is a platform that provides over 4 million free stock photos, illustrations, vector graphics, and videos for personal and commercial use. Users can search for and download high-quality images and other visual content without worrying about copyright restrictions, typing keywords, or browsing categories. Once they find the desired image, it can be downloaded in various sizes and formats for their projects. Pixabay images can be used for different purposes under different licenses and are available immediately without having to ask for author permission. It is free to use and does not require signing up or having an account to download images, but creating an account allows users to contribute to the platform by uploading their own content. Pixabay was developed by Hans Braxmeier and Simon Steinberger. Other similar options are Pexels, Freepik, or Unsplash, but we especially recommend Photos For Class since it is specifically designed for classroom use.

Evaluation: Pixabay is a useful tool for finding suitable pictures, illustrations, graphics, and videos for different purposes.

Cost: Free without registration.

Pixabay gathers personal information necessary for the operation of the service, including data voluntarily provided by users. It also collects cookies, some for targeted advertising, which can yet be opted out of. It mentions the storage and processing of data in various countries, Pixabay does not provide specific details about security measures in place to protect user data. Pixabay’s privacy policy references obtaining consent when necessary, such as for direct marketing purposes, and informs about the right to opt out of marketing communications. Pixabay acknowledges users' rights to access, rectify, delete, or restrict data processing. However, it does not state compliance with the GDPR. See more here.
