Youglish

Principal function(s): Autonomous learning

Youglish is an online tool designed to help its users improve their pronunciation in their target language (English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese). Simply enter the word or phrase which you would like to pronounce into the search bar and Youglish will provide you with hundreds of videos in which your desired word is said in context. It also provides you with a phonetic breakdown of the word in question. It is also a great tool to expand your knowledge of vocabulary in context. With languages such as English, Portuguese, Chinese and French, one can even choose the accent that one would like to hear, such as American or English. Evaluation: A very useful resource for those looking to work on their pronunciation or their students' pronunciation. Youglish does not only provide examples of how a word is pronounced but acts as a dictionary as well. Click on any word in the sentence being said in the video and Youglish will provide its definition, examples of its use in a sentence, and synonyms.

Playphrase (Tool to find the pronunciation of words from movies )

Playphrase is a tool that searches specific words or phrases out of movie snippets from a database of audiovisual media with over 60,000 phrases. In this manner, it provides real-life examples of words’ and sentences’ pronunciation. Users just have to type specific phrases, watch them being used naturally in context within popular movies and TV shows, and listen to their pronunciation. Playphrase works mainly with English. Playphrase is not open-source, but it is freely available. It does not require setting up an account or signing in. ... Plus d'info
