Blogger, a blogging tool by Google

Blogging

Description: Blogger is a web-based blogging platform, through which users can publish and share their thoughts, opinions, and content online on personalised blog websites. They can create posts, upload media, customize the design and layout of their blogs, and interact with their audience through comments and others. Blogger is free but requires an account. It was developed by Pyra Labs and later acquired by Google.

Evaluation: Blogger is a valuable and versatile tool for learners and teachers since it provides a platform for creating and sharing educational content in various formats. It can bolster writing and argumentation skills and provide learners with a medium to communicate with one another. As with any other blogging tool, interaction is possible through the commenting function, which makes it fitting for asynchronised group work and discussions. Access to a Blogger channel or post can be configured from public to private or unlisted (accessible only through a URL).

Cost: Free with registration.

Respect for privacy Privacy evaluations indicate how a tool handles personal data collection, storage, and sharing, including GDPR compliance and security measures, among others. The ICT-REV team provides them for informational purposes, reflecting our best understanding at the time of review, but assumes no legal responsibility for the accuracy or completeness of these evaluations and encourages users to conduct their own assessments: Low/Medium. Like other Google-owned tools, Blogger collects cookies, user data, and tracks users' activities and location for several purposes, among which advertising and marketing. Users can review and control activity data. Blogger does not explicitly state compliance with the GDPR, but creators can configure their blogs to be GDPR-compliant. See more here and here.
