ONCOO, a tool suite for cooperative learning

Digital whiteboardsMind mappingVirtual pinboards

Description: Oncoo is a browser-based platform that provides various cooperative learning tools for brainstorming, teamwork, helping one another, giving feedback, and reflection. Students can access these tools online without registering or inputting personal data, and just by inputting a password or scanning a QR code. Oncoo is free to use and was developed by Olaf Müller and Thomas Rohde.

Evaluation: Oncoo is a useful platform for cooperative work in the classroom, especially valuable for structuring group interactions. It is straightforward and anonymous for both creators (it does not require an account) and other participants (who can join through inputting a password or scanning a QR code), collects minimal data, and supports laptops/PCs, smartboards, and smartphones. However, activities can be accessed by anyone with the code, which raises confidentiality rather than data protection concerns. Oncoo is only available in German.

Cost: Free.
