Romanica, a game app for Romance languages

Description: Romanica is a game app by the French Ministry of Culture. It transports players into different worlds where they need to recognise the meaning of words and the language they belong to. The words are all from Romance languages, such as French, Romanian, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, Occitan, and Corsican. More words are gradually unlocked as users work their way up in the game. While progressing through the game, cultural information is unlocked and badges are awarded. Romanica is available for free download on Google Play and Apple Store.

Evaluation: Romanica is an entertaining way for learners to get familiarised with several Romance languages and practice vocabulary. It can be somewhat difficult to play without prior knowledge of these languages.

Cost: Free.

Respect for privacy Privacy evaluations indicate how a tool handles personal data collection, storage, and sharing, including GDPR compliance and security measures, among others. The ICT-REV team provides them for informational purposes, reflecting our best understanding at the time of review, but assumes no legal responsibility for the accuracy or completeness of these evaluations and encourages users to conduct their own assessments: Medium/High. Romanica collects no personal data. However, it is hosted by Google Play, which might collect cookies. It also uses non-identifiable information to improve the game and for analytical purposes. It does not display advertisements on its website. Romanica does not state compliance with the GDPR, but it was developed by the French Ministry of Culture, so it presumably follows French regulations. See more here.
