Principal function(s): Audio recording

Vocaroo is a web-based platform for recording and sharing voice messages online. Users can record audio using their device's microphone, which can then be shared via a unique URL or embedded in websites and emails. Vocaroo is free to use and does not require users to sign up for an account. Users can simply visit the website and start recording audio immediately. Evaluation: Vocaroo is a very straightforward and useful audio recording service that can be used by both teachers and students. In addition to recording and sharing, it also provides a web link or code to embed a recording into a webpage or blog. It also allows emailing or downloading a recording to a device. It is probably the easiest existing tool for audio recording since no registration is required. One disadvantage to Vocaroo is that it does not provide permanent storage, and so recordings expire after a few months. If the file created is meant to be used longer than that, it should be downloaded and saved into a computer.

Cost: Free without registration

High. Vocaroo only collects email addresses and mobile numbers when users register or log in to a Vocaroo account. It might also collect IP addresses and web browser details in server log files, but only when necessary for debugging purposes. It uses this data to manage accounts and send news and updates, in case users opt-in to this. Through its mailing list, Vocaroo sends occasional information regarding updates or new features. It also collects cookies for the purpose of keeping users signed in and storing account data. Vocaroo stores data with well-known cloud storage providers located within the European Union. It warns users that Vocaroo has not been designed to share highly private or confidential audio since the short, shareable, nature of the links does not provide the highest degrees of security required for confidential purposes. Vocaroo acknowledges users’ rights to access, modify or correct personal data. Vocaroo implicitly states compliance with the GDPR. See more here.

TaskCards (Virtual pinboard for content creation/sharing and for collaborative working)

TaskCards is a GDPR-compliant digital platform which was specifically created for educational purposes. It helps create and manage virtual pinboards, i.e. canvases where content can be uploaded and shared. Users can create and customise their pinboards by attaching text, images, videos, links and files, together with changing their background and much more. The privacy settings of these pinboards - or parts of a pinboard - can later be modified. TaskCards offers a free limited version that allows users to have up to 2 pin boards. While teachers have to register to create pinboards, learners can access them directly via link or QR code. TaskCards is developed by the German firm dSign Systems GmbH.... View details
