The European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML) of the Council of Europe was delighted to take part in the 31st International IATEFL Slovenia Conference, “R(A)ising voices”, held in Moravske Toplice from 12 to 15 March 2026. The event brought together more than 300 participants, offering a dynamic space to share insights and best practices in language education.
Susanna Slivensky, ECML Deputy Executive Director and Head of Programmes, attended the conference at the kind invitation of Slovenia’s Governing Board member Bronka Straus (Ministry of Education) and the Board of IATEFL Slovenia. She delivered an inspiring presentation entitled “Language education at the heart of democracy – are you in?”, highlighting how plurilingual and intercultural education can contribute to strengthening democratic culture across Europe. Participants were also introduced to a variety of practical ECML resources aimed at supporting and enriching everyday teaching.
We warmly thank IATEFL Slovenia for providing such a vibrant and collaborative platform for dialogue and collaboration within the language education community.
