The European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML) supports its member states through Training and consultancy (TaC) activities that respond directly to national priorities in language education. By working closely with national authorities and local experts, these activities help translate European expertise into sustainable, in-country impact.

For 2026, the ECML received 32 requests from 21 member states. Following selection based on clear criteria and balanced distribution of TaCs, 25 activities were chosen, which will take place across 20 countries. The planned activities for 2026 address a wide range of areas and include mediation related to the CEFR Companion Volume, beyond CLIL – pluriliteracies teaching for deeper learning, supporting the language(s) of schooling, plurilingual and intercultural education, action research for teachers, fostering digital citizenship and the developing learning environments where languages flourish. These activities provide practical, in-country support aligned with national contexts and needs.

On 27 January 2026, ECML experts and local organisers met online to prepare the upcoming activities. A total of 68 participants took part, strengthening coordination and ensuring a shared commitment to delivering high-quality, context-specific support.

In addition to the TaC activities of the ECML programme, approximately 20 further TaCs will be offered within the framework of the ECML-European Commission cooperation agreement. These activities, organised under slightly different procedures, focus on supporting multilingual classrooms, integrating ICT and AI in language teaching, and linking curricula and examinations to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

The ECML is grateful to all local organisers for their dedication and looks forward to a successful year supporting member states to achieve positive change in language education across Europe.
