Description: Beegup is a digital platform designed to support language learning and intercultural exchange for students aged 11 and up. It aims to promote real-world language practice through virtual language exchanges between student pen pals. It also provides multimedia news articles, which can be sorted by language and topic, and the possibility to create assignments with them. It has two different interfaces: one for teachers and one for students, with different functionalities. It provides users with three spaces: home (a feed with news articles and possible educational profiles to connect with), workspace (for classroom management, where teachers can set assignments on educational resources featured on Beegup, and students can access them), and community (to establish a pen pal network). Backed by pedagogical research highlighting the effectiveness of oral communication in language acquisition, Beegup enables teachers and students to build and maintain a network of correspondents throughout their schooling. Its website contains tutorials for students and teachers in English (students and teachers), Spanish (estudiantes y profesores), German (Schüler*innen und Lehrer*innen), and French (élèves et enseignants). The platform is entirely free, but it requires registration for use. It was launched in 2021 with the support of the French Ministry of National Education.

Evaluation: Beegup is a practical, engaging, and user-friendly tool that makes language exchanges accessible and safe for teachers and students alike. It is particularly effective for enhancing speaking, listening, and pronunciation skills, as well as for building learner autonomy and intercultural communication. The platform’s teacher-guided structure ensures pedagogical alignment, which sets it apart from more informal exchange tools. It also provides access to targeted educational materials and other functionalities. A key strength is its focus on safety, age-appropriateness, and classroom integration, with all features designed specifically to suit the school context, together with its privacy friendliness.
