Tumblr

A microblogging platform and social networking website. It contains about 250 million blogs. Stories, photos, mp3s, videos can be uploaded easily. Does not have commentary function by default (but you can install Disqus for that purpose). Registration needed.

Evaluation: A great way for teachers and primarily adult students to interactively share image, audio, video and text files. Keep in mind that, as with any blogging tool, the final product is visible to all Internet users, which may be a privacy concern with underage students. Tumblr does have a password-protected blog option, however this is not allowed by default, one has to have a public blog first in order to be able to create a private one. Very basic IT skills required for its use.

Cost: Free with registration
