Principal function(s): Autonomous learning

LanguageTool is a grammar, style, and spell checker which helps students improve their writing, by providing corrections and modifications to a text they have written or for an inserted text or Word document. It is available in over 40 languages and dialects as a website version and can be also used as a browser or E-mail add-on extension or as an Office plugin. Evaluation: LanguageTool is useful for helping students improve their writing by providing grammar, style and spell checking, as well as suggestions for synonyms. Learners should be encouraged to use the tool proactively by noticing the mistakes detected by the tool and paying close attention to the corrections proposed. LanguageTool has an intuitive, clear interface and is, overall, a valuable tool in its free version, particularly with an account. It does not contain a function for detecting plagiarism or for translation from one language to another.
