Akinator

Principal function(s): Game apps

Akinator is an online game where players think of a character, and through a series of questions, the game -in the form of a genie- attempts to guess who they are thinking of. Users pick a character from a video game, a movie, a book, or real life, and then the genie asks them a series of questions about the character to determine who it is and eventually guess it. Users can also have the option to add characters such as themselves or people they know in real life. Evaluation: Akinator is a simple yet engaging game that allows users to acquire some vocabulary in their target language. It can be played in up to 14 different languages. There is no limit to how many times it can be played and is free, although it displays advertisements. It is also available in app form.

However, the website provides links to external websites which may also collect personal or general data. Playphrase (Tool to find the pronunciation of words from movies )

Playphrase is a tool that searches specific words or phrases out of movie snippets from a database of audiovisual media with over 60,000 phrases. In this manner, it provides real-life examples of words’ and sentences’ pronunciation. Users just have to type specific phrases, watch them being used naturally in context within popular movies and TV shows, and listen to their pronunciation. Playphrase works mainly with English. Playphrase is not open-source, but it is freely available. It does not require setting up an account or signing in. ... Plus d'info
