Language teacher competences

The provision of quality language education depends, to a large extent, on the quality of language teacher education, both initial and in-service. This focus on teacher education and the ongoing need to review, enhance and expand language teacher competences in response to our complex and ever-changing society, lies at the heart of ECML activities.

ECML projects

Towards a Common European Framework of Reference for language teachers

How do existing tools and publications define and present language teacher competences, and how are these tools used in practice? What could be the added value of a future Common European Framework of Reference for Language Teachers, and what might be its form, content, and function? To answer these questions, this project will develop a comprehensive description of language teacher competences

Action research communities for language teachers

The goal of action research communities for language teachers is to contribute towards quality enhancement in the language classroom through the application of action research approaches. This will be achieved by tapping into existing networks with a view to creating new learning communities, which can be replicated across ECML member states.
