ANVILL

Principal function(s): Course management

ANVILL is a web-based tool to organise courses and facilitate text-based lessons and activities. It is designed for both blended and online environments and displays all course information on one page or interface, never requiring more than one or two clicks to find any content. There is no need to install ANVILL, but registration is required for educators. Hosting is provided by the University of Oregon for free. Basic IT skills are a prerequisite for using ANVILL. Evaluation: ANVILL is a practical and straightforward tool to manage and host courses in distance learning and blended settings. Having been developed by a nonprofit educational institution, it is a safe alternative to other course management tools. Its interface is intuitive and easy to use. It is suitable for courses at any level and requires only basic IT skills.

Playphrase is a tool that searches specific words or phrases out of movie snippets from a database of audiovisual media with over 60,000 phrases. In this manner, it provides real-life examples of words’ and sentences’ pronunciation.
