Powerschool

Principal function(s): Course managementMarking and feedback

PowerSchool is an interface for primary and secondary school teachers where they can use special tools for different parts of their teaching process. The planboard can be used for lesson planning as well as for managing the teacher’s schedule. Its digital curriculum functionality helps educators check for redundancies, inconsistencies, misalignments, weaknesses, and gaps in the curriculum as well as document their required components and the intended student learning outcomes. Moreover, the markboard helps educators with the evaluation of students and tracking their individual progress. Resources provide a chance for educators to share their insights and lesson plans with colleagues. Evaluation: PowerSchool is a useful tool for educators, parents, and students that accompanies and helps them in every step of the teaching and learning process. It can also help teachers reduce the time spent on planning and preparing lessons and tracking students’ progress. All in all, it can enhance engagement and facilitate communication between all stakeholders involved in teaching and learning. As a downside, PowerSchool primarily focuses on solutions for schools in the US. While it might require some time to get familiarised with, it becomes efficient with familiarity. Basic IT skills are necessary for navigation and data input.

Latest addition to the ICT-REV inventory

Playphrase (Tool to find the pronunciation of words from movies )

Playphrase is a tool that searches specific words or phrases out of movie snippets from a database of audiovisual media with over 60,000 phrases. In this manner, it provides real-life examples of words’ and sentences’ pronunciation. Users just have to type specific phrases, watch them being used naturally in context within popular movies and TV shows, and listen to their pronunciation. Playphrase works mainly with English. Playphrase is not open-source, but it is freely available. It does not require setting up an account or signing in. ... View details
