ClassroomScreen

Principal function(s): Course managementDigital whiteboards

ClasroomScreen is a tool for managing classrooms and in-person settings. It is essentially a display board or digital screen into which many useful widgets can be integrated, such as an instruction box, a stopwatch, a timer, a random name picker, or a noise level controller, among others. All of these can then appear simultaneously on the same screen. Teachers of all subjects and grade levels can use it to create a more engaging learning environment, particularly as a visual tool for group work. It was developed by Laurens Koppers and is available for free with no account signup required, although doing so allows users to save settings. Evaluation: ClassroomScreen is a straightforward, practical tool which helps teachers manage their in-person classes more efficiently, while also making learning more engaging and interactive for students. It does not take more than ten minutes to set up a personalised ClassroomScreen, and with an account, these are saved and can be used later on. Only basic IT skills are required. Besides the YouTube tutorial above, this material could be helpful.

Latest addition to the ICT-REV inventory

Playphrase (Tool to find the pronunciation of words from movies )

Playphrase is a tool that searches specific words or phrases out of movie snippets from a database of audiovisual media with over 60,000 phrases. In this manner, it provides real-life examples of words’ and sentences’ pronunciation. Users just have to type specific phrases, watch them being used naturally in context within popular movies and TV shows, and listen to their pronunciation. Playphrase works mainly with English. Playphrase is not open-source, but it is freely available. It does not require setting up an account or signing in. ... View details
