CamStudio

Principal function(s): Image and video editingScreen recording

Cam Studio is a tool designed to record screen and audio activity for Windows operating systems. CamStudio works by recording everything that happens on a computer screen. Users can employ Cam Studio to record videos, and presentations, or to create tutorials for lessons. Available extra options include inserting webcam footage, adding captions or narrating over footage. CamStudio was developed by RenderSoft. It is free and open-source software that does not require signing up or having an account to use. Evaluation: CamStudio is a practical screen recording tool suitable for educational purposes. Teachers can employ this tool to produce video tutorials explaining complex topics, language lessons, pronunciation guides, or speaking exercises. CamStudio can also foster students’ creativity by allowing learners to create their own content, and develop presentations, projects, or reports with video elements. Users can tailor the quality of a video recording to suit their needs, for example, to send it as an attachment or to upload it online. CamStudio does not demand advanced IT skills but requires installation.
