InsertLearning

Principal function(s): BookmarkingQuiz/exercise makers

Insert Learning is a web-based tool and browser extension that allows embedding interactive content into web pages. Educators can use it to insert questions, discussions, videos, annotations, and other interactive elements directly into any webpage. Once created, students can access the interactive content while browsing the webpage, engaging with the material in real time. Educators can track student progress and responses to the embedded content. Insert Learning offers both free and premium plans. To use Insert Learning, educators need to sign up for an account, but students do not have to. Evaluation: InsertLearning is a valuable and interactive tool that can make learning with digital tools more engaging. Teachers can use InsertLearning to provide hints and insert questions on websites that help students understand and reflect on the content in different ways. For example, by highlighting/asking questions about parts of the text, inserting related videos or adding discussion topics for the whole class to get involved, students might find it easier to follow a topic. A downside of InsertLearning is that the free version limits the amount of lessons that can be created. However, the number of students that can access them is unlimited, as is access to all of InsertLearning’s features. Average IT skills required.

Cost: Free with registration + premium plans available

Playphrase (Tool to find the pronunciation of words from movies )

Playphrase is a tool that searches specific words or phrases out of movie snippets from a database of audiovisual media with over 60,000 phrases. In this manner, it provides real-life examples of words’ and sentences’ pronunciation. Users just have to type specific phrases, watch them being used naturally in context within popular movies and TV shows, and listen to their pronunciation. Playphrase works mainly with English. Playphrase is not open-source, but it is freely available. It does not require setting up an account or signing in. ... View details
