Lyricstraining

Principal function(s): Autonomous learningGame apps

LyricsTraining is an online platform that helps users test language knowledge and memory through music lyrics. Users can select songs from a wide range of genres and languages, and then choose a game mode based on the difficulty level. As the song plays, users must fill in the missing lyrics, either by typing them out or selecting them from multiple-choice options. LyricsTraining offers free and paid features, these including ad-free browsing, unlimited access to songs, and additional game modes. Users can access LyricsTraining without signing up for an account, but registering for an account provides additional benefits, such as tracking progress, saving favourite songs, and participating in leaderboards and challenges. LyricsTraining is also available as an app, Lingoclip. Evaluation: Lyricstraining is a practical tool to practise a target language by listening to music and guessing the lyrics. It has a gamified interface and system that can appeal to learners for practising the target language, similar to Duolingo and other language-learning apps. Teachers can also customise songs and choose the gaps to be filled in by their students. Lyricstraining also keeps track of users’ scores and allows students to compete against one another. However, these functions require setting up an account. Lingoclip, the app version, limits the number of songs you can play for free to 3 songs in 30 minutes, although there are no limitations on the website version. Overall, it can be a helpful complementary tool for language learning and can help learners introduce the target language into their daily lives by simply listening to music. Basic IT skills required.
