The documentation and resource centre (DRC)
The DRC is a reference library with a focus on the methodology of language education. It includes resources connected to ECML activities, works published by the Council of Europe and the John Trim collection.

The documentation and resource centre specialises in the methodology of language education (language didactics). The collection includes resources connected to ECML activities, reference works published by the Language Policy Unit of the Council of Europe and the John Trim collection, a unique collection which includes material covering 35 years of the Council of Europe's work in the field of modern languages.
The DRC is a reference library and its documentary resources can be consulted at the Centre. It offers an information and documentation service, undertakes bibliographical research and disseminates the results of ECML projects.

Reference library containing some 7 200 resources on language teaching and learning, with a personalised information and documentation service for users.
History
The ECML was created on the 8th April 1994 as an Enlarged Partial Agreement of the Council of Europe. The ECML's Statute stipulates that "The Centre shall set up a documentation centre providing specialists and multipliers with a wide range of teaching aids and results of research". This documentation and resource centre was set up in 1995.

Users
- Participants in ECML activities;
- Professionals and future professionals in the field of language teaching and learning: teachers, teacher educators, inspectors, researchers, educationalists, textbook authors, curriculum developers, language policy experts, students;
- Educational structures (at all levels and in all languages): schools, universities, institutions, associations working in modern languages, language resource centres, specialised libraries.
DRC collections
The DRC contains three collections:
- collection related to ECML activities:
this contains nearly 4 200 catalogued resources including those recommended by co-ordinators of ECML projects and publications resulting from project work.
- collection of publications from the Language Policy Division of the Council of Europe:
this contains validated European Language Portfolios, copies of the Common European Framework of Reference in different languages, reference publications, reports and studies.
- the John Trim collection:
Mr Trim's private collection, donated in 2004, and inaugurated on 16 September 2005 as part of the ECML's 10th anniversary celebrations. It includes material on the work carried out by the Language Policy Division of the Council of Europe between 1971 and 1997 and numerous resources related to language education methodology.
Acquisition policy:
Acquisitions are based on the topics in the ECML's programmes of activities. The co-ordination teams of the Centre's various projects can suggest relevant resources which are then used by participants during workshops in Graz and made available to any other interested party.
Services
- Public access reference library.
- Personal welcome for individual users and visiting groups (group visits should be arranged in advance). A visit to the documentation and resource centre can form part of an official visit to the ECML.
- Processing orders of ECML publications and CD-Roms. When ordering, please indicate the desired titles, required quantity and delivery address.
- Sending of ECML publications/Cd-Roms (list of publications)
- Sending of general information on the Council of Europe
- Personalised information and documentation service:
documentary assistance for students and young researchers (for example those working on dissertations or theses). Our documentalist and our trainee would be happy to help you in your research.
- Bibliographical research on request.
- A computer with internet connection is available for users, who are also welcome to use their own computer in the DRC.
