The documentation and resource centre (DRC)

The DRC is a reference library with a focus on the methodology of language education. It includes resources connected to ECML activities, works published by the Council of Europe and the John Trim collection.

  • The John Trim Collection - details on the collection and information on Mr. John Trim.
  • Collection related to ECML activities - nearly 4 200 catalogued resources
  • Collection of publications from the Language Policy Unit of the Council of Europe - comprises all key reference publications, reports and studies.

The documentation and resource centre specialises in the methodology of language education (language didactics). The collection includes resources connected to ECML activities, reference works published by the Language Policy Unit of the Council of Europe and the John Trim collection, a unique collection which includes material covering 35 years of the Council of Europe's work in the field of modern languages.

The DRC is a reference library and its documentary resources can be consulted at the Centre. It offers an information and documentation service, undertakes bibliographical research and disseminates the results of ECML projects.

Reference library containing some 7 200 resources on language teaching and learning, with a personalised information and documentation service for users.

History

The ECML was created on the 8th April 1994 as an Enlarged Partial Agreement of the Council of Europe. The ECML's Statute stipulates that "The Centre shall set up a documentation centre providing specialists and multipliers with a wide range of teaching aids and results of research". This documentation and resource centre was set up in 1995.

Role

  • To provide access to ECML resources for experts involved in ECML projects, as well as interested institutions and individual users;

  • To support the production of publications resulting from projects by co-ordinating their dissemination.


Users

  • Participants in ECML activities;
     
  • Professionals and future professionals in the field of language teaching and learning: teachers, teacher educators, inspectors, researchers, educationalists, textbook authors, curriculum developers, language policy experts, students;
     
  • Educational structures (at all levels and in all languages): schools, universities, institutions, associations working in modern languages, language resource centres, specialised libraries.
