Description
Language Across the Curriculum LAC, was one of four international networks set up at the ECML Workshop No. 4/97, held in Poland, entitled 'Foreign language teaching and learning in Central and Eastern Europe: Towards common principles for European foreign language curricula for children of age 9-11'. LAC represents an exciting new approach to foreign language learning at primary and secondary level, whereby children learn a language simultaneously with other practical exercises i.e. learning a short song in a foreign language. Members of the network were each asked to present their national curricula for biology, geography and history for age 10-12. The results were then compared and combined, summarised and then translated into the relevant languages. Finally sample teaching notes and material were compiled and used as guidelines for teachers introducing LAC into their curricula.
