Wordclouds

Principal function(s): Word cloud creators

Wordclouds.com is a free online word cloud generator and tag cloud creator. It works on PCs, tablets or smartphones. Paste text, upload a document or open an URL to automatically generate a word- or tag cloud. Customize clouds with shapes, themes, colours and fonts. One can also edit the word list, cloud size and gap size. Wordclouds can also generate clickable word clouds with links (image map). Once satisfied with the result, save the image and share it online. Evaluation: A nice visual presentation of texts. It is a fitting tool for the creation of icons, visual messages etc. Word clouds can be made in many different languages and in different shapes. It is practical as it immediately reveals the most prominent concepts of a text/webpage. Easy and intuitive to use, very basic IT skills are required.
Why not use it for highlighting the most important words of a text, poem or a song or use it as a prompt for a classroom discussion?

In this manner, it provides real-life examples of words’ and sentences’ pronunciation. Users just have to type specific phrases, watch them being used naturally in context within popular movies and TV shows, and listen to their pronunciation. Playphrase works mainly with English. Playphrase is not open-source, but it is freely available. It does not require setting up an account or signing in. ... View details
