Padlet

Principal function(s): BookmarkingVirtual pinboards

Padlet is an online collaborative platform that allows users to share files, pictures, videos, and audio on a dashboard. Elaborated privacy settings (public, private, etc.) allow users to manage their audience. The free version only allows people to have a maximum of three padlets. Registration required. Evaluation: A great tool for teachers to create their own dashboards where they can share relevant content with students. Among many other useful features, Padlet allows management of who can and cannot post and edit the board. The password-protected wall for limited access is a particularly good feature in educational contexts as it allows teachers to keep the contents private and thus protect their students’ privacy. A colourful and modern interface and design make Padlet appealing for blended teaching environments with students of any age.

Cost: Free with registration + paid premium features

Playphrase (Tool to find the pronunciation of words from movies )

Playphrase is a tool that searches specific words or phrases out of movie snippets from a database of audiovisual media with over 60,000 phrases. In this manner, it provides real-life examples of words’ and sentences’ pronunciation. Users just have to type specific phrases, watch them being used naturally in context within popular movies and TV shows, and listen to their pronunciation. Playphrase works mainly with English. Playphrase is not open-source, but it is freely available. It does not require setting up an account or signing in. ... View details
