Wheel Decide

Principal function(s): Poll and survey creators

A free online spinner tool that makes it possible to create your own digital wheels. Educators can use it to pick a random student in class to answer a question or participate in a classroom activity, spin a wheel of questions, topics, or vocabulary terms, or randomly assign groups or teams. One has to fill the choice boxes, give a name to your wheel and apply the changes. To save a wheel, one has to register with a Facebook account or simply bookmark the URL, and the choices will be saved. Evaluation: Wheel Decide is engaging and easy to use. Users can give wheels a title, and pick advanced options regarding colour schemes that can be changed, seconds to spin, and more. Wheel Decide is great for having students pick topics for presentations and projects. Teachers could also use it to pick topics for review games in class. Another option would be to randomly call on students during class time. Wheel Decide is also very useful for studying vocabulary or even assigning teams. After creating a wheel, teachers can copy the embedded code to their classroom learning management system or website.

Playphrase (Tool to find the pronunciation of words from movies )

Playphrase is a tool that searches specific words or phrases out of movie snippets from a database of audiovisual media with over 60,000 phrases. In this manner, it provides real-life examples of words’ and sentences’ pronunciation. Users just have to type specific phrases, watch them being used naturally in context within popular movies and TV shows, and listen to their pronunciation. Playphrase works mainly with English. Playphrase is not open-source, but it is freely available. It does not require setting up an account or signing in. ... Plus d'info
